Blood, sweat, culture and tears… documenting everyday women and the difference they can make. Sometimes it just takes one person and small steps, to motivate change or inspire policy. I’m happy to introduce Sarena, and the routine she’s created for herself, within the #BLM movement, in order to continue to move it forward. Completely shot and edited on the iPhone, through iPhone 11 lenses and Adobe the Adobe Creative Suite.
This is a clip shot in Varadero, Cuba, shot through the 14mm lens of a canon 5D Mark IV. Just outside the frame there stood an old abandoned hotel from the 50’s. The grand staircase was crumbling and was most likely unsafe to walk on. You could tell the salt water in the air had been slowly eating away at the paint and sand had become the buildings new textured flooring, just part of the wax-poetic that makes up Cuba. I was aiming for a four-hour capture with this… I managed two. Mother Nature Had Other Plans. 🎶 Music by: Bensound, “Ofelia’s Dream”
As the COVID-19 virus spreads, random acts of kindness and community are rising as well. In spite of the forced isolation and physical social distancing occurring, people are still finding ways to reach out, communicate, bond, pray, hope, and heal… together. #TogetherAtHome
I Interview Rachel Freeman to discuss her newly published book of poetry, “The Hunger.” Rachel is a special education teacher, entrepreneur, and podcaster. By sharing her story through poetry, she enables connection and community around the causes she’s most passionate about. Life is a journey, and writing, art; media can often create that connection and perhaps change somebody’s life. Rachel does her best to write and reach out to others as a daily practice. She shares that process here. This interview was completely shot and edited on the iPhone, through iPhone 11 lenses, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

The issue of gender-based violence or intimate partner violence (IPV) has grown in numbers throughout the world, often leading to a higher female homicide (femicide) rate as well. The UN has recently revamped their agenda and voice in the fight against gender-based violence, stating that one out of three women will have experienced violence in their lifetime and half of the women killed worldwide were killed by an intimate partner. With Covid-19 now among us, these women suffer an even greater threat. An already “private violence” is now facing a public crisis. Many victims will be too frightened to speak up and many communities will be too consumed by the current Covid crisis to speak out. So what are victims to do? And how are organizations, shelters, and hotlines preparing for the inevitable up-tic as this virus sweeps through our country?
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), was up for renewal in February of 2019 and didn’t pass. The bill originally received bipartisan support with a vote from the house of 235–195 and the senate 61–38 in 1994 but proves to be contentious today and still has yet to be renewed.
Why Cuba? It’s a question often asked. Because, the history, culture, people, and food. That pretty much sums it up. I wanted to see it all for myself so as soon as they opened up travel to Cuba in 2016, I jumped at the opportunity. 🎶 Music by: Los Hermanos, “Amor Silvestre”
